How do I know the handing of my door and which hand to order?

Below is a visual representation on how to determine the handing of the door.

      

Stand outside the room that you are entering and if the hinges are on the left then it is a left handed door and if the hinges are on the right then is a right handed door. 

What function do I need to order?

 Below is a visual representation on how to determine the function.

  • Single Cylinder Deadbolt - Deadbolt unlocked/locked with key on the outside and thumb turn on the inside.
  • Double Cylinder - Deadbolt unlocked/locked with key on both the inside and outside.  Cylinders are on interior and exterior.
  • Patio Deadbolt - Deadbolt locked and unlocked from interior only.  No access from the exterior.
  • Hall/Closet (Passage) - Levers free on both sides - Normally used on hallway and closets
  • Bed/Bath (Privacy) - Levers are locked/unlocked from inside by push button or thumb turn or outside by emergency key.  Normally used on bathrooms and bedrooms.
  • Keyed Entry - Levers are locked/unlocked from inside by push button or outside by key.  Normally used on exterior doors.  
  • Full Dummy - Handleset and Levers on both sides of the door are stationary with no mechanism.  
  • Half Dummy - Single sided lever is stationary.

How do I know the backset of my locks?

Below is a visual representation of what to measure.  Measure from edge of door to the middle of the lock and that is the backset.

What keying options are available?
Keyed Different - All locks will have different keys.
Keyed Alike - All locks of the same brand or keyway will come with the locks keyed to the same key.  If you know your key number we can key the locks to that key number so your new locks will match existing lock key systems.  If you have questions contact us.
Smart Key - There is no option for us to rekey these as you, the consumer, can rekey them in minutes.  The Smart Key cylinders will allow you to also rekey them anytime you like without removing from the door within minutes.

What door thickness will locks fit?

Most door hardware fits doors between 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" thick. If your door is thicker, please check our parts section for thick door kits or contact us for additional information.

 

Shipping FAQ's

When will my order ship?

 If all products are in stock your order will normally ship the same day if ordered before 12pm Central.  If not, then it will ship the next day.

What freight company do you use?

We use UPS ground.  If you need expedited shipping please contact us for a custom freight quote.

Where do you ship from?

We ship from multiple locations across the United States.  So based on your location we will ship from the nearest location with the inventory you ordered.

What if you are out of stock on an item?

There may be occasions where we are out of stock and we reserve the right to ship when all products are in stock.  In such cases we will notify you of the back order and estimated lead time for you to receive your order.  

Why do you offer flat rate shipping?

Instead of offering shipping based on weight, size, etc we chose to offer shipping rates based on dollar amounts purchased.  This will decrease the amount of shipping charged to you, the customer, as door hardware can be heavy and in some cases come in large packages.

What are the shipping rates?

We have flat rate shipping bases on dollar amount of goods purchased.
$0.00 - $150.00 = $11.95
$150.01 - $399.99 = $13.95

Return FAQ's
How do I make a return?
Express Hardware Direct strives to ensure you are satisfied with your order.  In the event you are not fully satisfied with your order please contact us so we can work on a solution.  If a return is still needed we will issue a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) code that is needed before anything can be returned.  We can not accept any returns that do not have the RMA code. 
How do I ship my return?
Please ship your product back using the least expensive way while still ensuring it's delivery in good condition.  Your shipment will require the RMA code to be on the package.
When will I receive my refund?  
Once you return is received and inspected, per our refund policy, your refund will be processed with 5 to 10 days.
What is your refund policy?

The following items may be returned/exchanged within 30 days:

  • Items must be in the original packaging.
  • Items that have not been installed.
  • Items that are defective will be exchanged.
  • Incorrectly shipped products.
*A 25% restock fee will be charged for all returns/exchanges unless defective.
TAX FAQ's
Do you charge taxes?
If you live in Oklahoma or Texas you will be charge sales tax in compliance with your local and state tax rates.
I am tax exempt.  Can I send you my tax certificate for tax exemptions?
Yes, please create an account and then email a copy of your tax exempt certificate.  Once we have the tax exempt certificate we will mark your account as tax exempt.
Pricing & Availability FAQ's
Do you offer bulk or project pricing?
Yes, please go to the "contact us" page and submit a list of the products you are interested in purchasing along with the quantities or contact us and we will work on a quote to fit your budget.
I can't find everything I need on the website.  Do you have products that are not listed on the website that I can purchase?
Yes, we sell and have access to most brands.  We are loading new products everyday, but in the meantime please reach out to us and we will get you a quote.
